How To Clean a Bamboo Steamer

Here’s our quickest rundown on how to clean a bamboo steamer. To get your steamer clean and ready for use, you’ll need a nylon scrub brush, soap, and a pot. It will take about 5-10 minutes to clean your bamboo steamer. For tough stains and stuck-on food, you will need 15-20 minutes in total to steam the baskets at the beginning.

Equipment

  • Nylon brush
  • Soap water
  • Drying rack
  • Pot

Instructions

  • Steam the baskets as you would when cooking but with nothing in them for approximately ten minutes. This optional step is great for removing lots of food residue.
  • Use hot, soapy water and scrub the baskets gently with the brush making sure to get all the nooks and crannies.
  • Rinse the baskets with clean water to get all the soap off, then set them aside on a drying rack for up to two days before storing.
